Which starter wall tie to use
Starter Wall Ties allow new walls to be joined to existing structures. They can be used to extend an existing building or they can be used to help create an additional leaf where a cavity is required, for example in the restoration or conversion of an old barn into a dwelling.
At Vista we offer four options, the V63 Universal Stainless Steel Wall Starter System, the SST Starter Tie, the SSFT Starter Frame Tie, the FT Starter Frame Tie, the SST Cavity Starter Tie and the V30 Wavy Tail Tie.
V63 Universal Stainless Steel Wall Starter System
A channel and tie system used where new walls are being built directly from existing masonry. Suitable for both internal and external brick or block walls, in buildings up to a maximum of 8 metres or 3 storeys high. Designed so that multiple channels can be slotted together and so that ties can be placed at variable heights to accommodate different brick and block sizes.

SST Starter Ties
Used where new walls are being built directly from existing brickwork. Alternatively they can be used without the plug and screwed directly into timber door or window frames. Suitable for both internal and external brick or block walls, in buildings up to a maximum of 8 metres or 3 storeys high.

SSFT Starter Frame Ties
Used for fixing timber door and window frames to brickwork by building into mortar courses as construction progresses. Suitable for buildings up to a maximum of 8 metres or 3 storeys high.

FT Frame Ties
Used for fixing timber door and window frames to brickwork by building into mortar courses as construction progresses. Suitable for buildings up to a maximum of 8 metres or 3 storeys high.

SST Cavity Starter Ties
Used where there is a cavity and a new wall needs to be built. Suitable for buildings up to a maximum of 8 metres or 3 storeys high. These starter ties are very effective when creating an additional leaf, for example in the restoration of an old building.

V30 Wavy Tail Ties
These products are stainless steel ‘wavy’ tail ties designed for remedial applications where no ties are initially present. They come in lengths of 150-300mm and are intended for use with Vista resins. To install, build the new leaf until the first wall tie is needed, then drill a 10mm hole in existing masonry, clear it, and insert the resin and wavy end tie. Lay the triangular end into new brickwork mortar beds as construction progresses.
